A note from your (empty) school psychologist!

First things first- thank you for even opening this- not to mention the survey and email that came before. As I mentioned in the email, I am in desperate need of some solid, research-based, make your heart happier, self-care. Now, I know what you are thinking- this is going to be Kellsye’s personal vent memo and a slightly tantalizing tell all and “who said what to who” … but that is not the goal. Although entertaining and cathartic, that is best saved for a non-permanent product. My goal is to value your time and mine by adding what I hope is a smile and a laugh to your day as a break from the world in which we live. Because if I can bring a little light into the often very dark world then I have done my job as a school psychologist and friend.

So today, on this inaugural note, I want to sandwich some of my favorite stories thus far this year.

Parents signed consent for placement for their son to get support to address emotional/behavioral concerns that he has been needing for some time. I had a career (long term) teacher indicate that they were going to have to “google” how to do a very basic part of their job. Another teacher stated that she was not going to change her seating for only one student. I have attended some really great training this year and am excited to apply those things to my job.

Today I got to share with 2.0 (if you know you know) about some of my adventures in OKC. One of the favorites was about the principal who knocked on my door while I was testing (don’t worry-there was a sign stating that I was testing, as well as her having seen me walk into my office with said child) and then proceeded to walk in to ask me why I was testing Johnny and not Susie. That younger Kellsye (2nd year psych) was 100% more likely to have responded with patience, professionalism, and poise. Today’s Kellsye might have been fired.
